Nutrien has ended its retail operations in the Brazilian states of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, the company said, as it continues to reassess its footprint after a prolonged downturn in the country’s crop-input distribution sector.
The closures come as the Canada-based company conducts a broader review of strategic alternatives for its Brazilian retail business, a process it disclosed in May.
A notice attributed to Nutrien circulated on social media on Wednesday saying operations in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul would be discontinued while activities elsewhere in Brazil would continue normally.
The move was first reported by CNN Brasil. Nutrien did not initially comment on the report and later confirmed the decision in a statement.
“We have decided to end our retail operations in the states of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.
